VSMM2005 : VIRTUAL REALITY AT WORK IN THE 21ST CENTURY

This year marks the return of the International Conference on Virtual Systems and MultiMedia to Europe. VSMM2005 continues to push the boundaries of Virtual Reality and Multimedia research by focusing on the impact on society. Virtual Reality is no longer considered novelty or a wonder—but a living reality in the lives of millions of people all over the world. It is therefore time to take a closer look at how Virtual Reality interacts with society, how it affects its users, and how it promotes or directs social change. The theme of the VSMM2005 Conference is Virtual Reality’s present or potential impact on 21st century society in the fields of Heritage, Education, Applied VR Technology, and Entertainment and the Arts. It will also feature a special session in which the theme of professional guidelines and health, safety, and usability issues will be addressed.
VSMM2005 will be held for the first time in Belgium, in the historic town of Ghent. Hosted by the Ename Center for Public Archaeology and Heritage Presentation, VSMM2005 will take place in the Flanders Expo conference building, October 3-7, 2005.
VSMM2005 will present traditional technical sessions in the respective areas with a lineup of plenary sessions, invited talks, tutorials, panels, poster sessions, workshops, visits and an innovative technology exhibition. Papers related to the following topics are solicited. However, any paper dealing with a pioneered or significant development in virtual reality and multimedia is also encouraged.

AUTHOR SCHEDULE

Notification of acceptance: July 10, 2005

PAPERS
Papers should describe original and unpublished work about the above or closely related topics. Papers should not exceed 10 pages single spaced in length including images, figures, tables and references. The paper should also include the title of the paper, authors names, affiliations, postal addresses, e-mail addresses and the contact person for the paper. Authors should submit a manuscript electronically as a PDF file and template examples will be available in March on the conference website. An online paper submission system will be available approximately one month before the paper deadline. Various forms of multimedia, QuickTime documents, etc. can be submitted together with the paper, and will be included in the electronic version of the Proceedings. The submission should relate to your paper presentation.
PANELS & WORKSHOPS
Submit a proposal that describes what you plan to discuss. The proposal should include the topic, the importance of the topic to the VSMM2005 attendees, originality and a brief position statement. The proposal should be around 3 pages single spaced in length and submitted by email to the conference secretariat. Be sure to include the contact persons, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses.
TUTORIALS
Submit a proposal that describes what you plan to teach or workshop. The proposal must include a description of the objectives, duration, experience level and prerequisites of the intended audience, about 200-word abstract, outline of the content and the instructor's vita. Be sure to include the contact persons, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, and email address. Proposals should be around 3 pages single spaced in length and submitted electronically.
